1972 Zakspeed Ford Escort
This very desirable Zakspeed Escort was delivered new to the famous Italian driver Martino Finotto, who raced for 20 years at the top level, (IMSA, Endurance World Championship, European Touring Championship and Le Mans).
Most of the Escorts racing in period were Broadspeed versions, (now racing in historic events). This one is a very rare Zakspeed that is identical to the model driven by works driver Hans Heyer (Castrol colours) that won many international races in 1974.
Finotto won the Italian Touring Championship in 1974 and he got a superb 3rd overall in the Giro d'Italia of the same year, against cars with much more power, like the works Lancia and Porsche.
Finotto used this car also in the following year, but he was more dedicated to the arising BMW 3.5 CSL and AMS Tecno 2000 Sport Prototype. The car remained unused for more than 30 years and was recommissioned by a previous owner.
He used the car in hill climbs and historic circuit races for two years before selling the car to its current owner.
Upon acquisition, the currant owner further developed the car fitting a fully developed alloy Ford Cosworth BDG with fuel injection (280 hp) as well as a complete mechanical and cosmetic refresh.
The car was then used in several hill climbs extremely successfully.
A rare opportunity to acquire one of the very few original Zakspeed cars. Very fast and competitive. Current FIA papers and HTP Passport.
