March 78B Formula Atlantic
Meticulously restored and developed for 4 times Motorcycle Grand Prix World Champion Eddie Lawson to compete in historic events culminating in a win at Laguna Seca. All works carried out by respected race engineers Classic Competition of San Marcos California. It is important to stress that this car has been restored and developed to a level demanded by and worthy of a multiple World Champion.
Chassis 78/B4 was campaigned during the entire 1978 Labatt’s Formula Atlantic series by Cliff Hanson. The car is currently in tribute livery to a fine British period Formula Atlantic driver, Phil Dowsett. Most recently the car has been raced to victory by four time Grand Prix Motorcycle World Champion Eddie Lawson.
The engine is a legal Jay Ivey BDA with one race on it, the 2014 HMSA race at Laguna Seca, which the car won. The gearbox was subsequently replaced with a completely new Hewland FT-200. The gears and ancillaries from the former gearbox are included with the car. The engine showed 225 bhp on Ivey’s dyno when installed. Further changes to the exhaust and carburettors yielded an additional 12 hp on a rolling road dyno. The tub is a new 2013 Marc Bahner tub with the original chassis tag. There have been no incidents with the car and she stands in superb order.
This car will appeal to a competitor that demands a top flight, professionally developed machine without excuse. 160,000 USD of expenditure was lavished on the restoration / development! Eligible for the new Peter Auto Euro F2 series as well as the HSCC Historic F2 and Derek Bell series. Please contact Legends for further info.
